Three trades. One contract. Paid in stages, not promises.

A small MEP firm does the mechanical, electrical and plumbing under one contract — and gets paid the hard way: progress claims against BOQ lines, a retention held back for months, and variations priced after the work is already done. InstaJack puts the quote, the claims and the retention trail on one phone, so the paperwork stops deciding when you eat.

How is MEP work won and quoted?

You price a BOQ, not a job. Chilled-water piping, ducting, containment, drainage, testing and commissioning — dozens of lines, each with a rate the main contractor will test line by line. A lump number on WhatsApp loses to a proper breakdown, and a breakdown built in a spreadsheet at midnight loses hours you do not have.

In InstaJack the BOQ becomes your price book: every line you quote often — per metre of pipe, per point, per unit installed — saved once at your rate, in your words. The next tender is assembled by tapping lines and setting quantities, then sent as a clean quote the client or main contractor approves on a link. Core is free forever, and the Claim Pack carries the same lines forward into claims.

  • BOQ lines saved as your own price-book items, at your rates
  • Quantities and units set per line — metre, point, number, lump sum
  • Quote sent on WhatsApp and approved on the link, before work starts
  • A buying list per job, so materials are ordered once, in full

How do progress claims and retentions actually run?

Monthly, you claim the percentage complete on each BOQ line. The QS measures, argues, and signs off less than you claimed. A retention — a slice of every certificate — stays held until handover and the defects period ends, which can mean months of your margin sitting in someone else's account.

With the Claim Pack (AED 79 per firm per month), each progress claim is built from the approved quote lines themselves: claim this month's percentage per line, and only pre-approved work is ever claimed. Variations join the same stack once approved. The claim record shows what was claimed, what was signed off and what retention is still held — so release day is a date you chase with evidence, not a favour you ask for.

What paperwork slows an MEP firm down?

The work is inspected before it is paid. DEWA and authority inspection milestones shape the payment calendar: a failed or late inspection holds the stage, the certificate and the cash. Add submittals, dayworks sheets and subcontractor claims underneath your own, and a six-man firm can spend its evenings as a paperwork office.

InstaJack answers with one thread per job: the booking diary holds inspection and milestone dates, every quote and claim lives against the same job, and paperwork you issue — quotes, claims, invoices with your bank details — is generated from lines already approved, never retyped. Dayworks and extra instructions become priced variations sent for approval on the client's phone before the extra work is done, not argued about after.

  • Variations priced and approved before the work, not after
  • Inspection and milestone dates in the bookings diary
  • Subcontractor dayworks captured as priced lines on the job
  • Invoices carry your bank details, entered once

Getting started honestly: there is no MEP starter book

Straight answer: MEP has no built-in starter price book in InstaJack, and this page will not invent one. MEP rates swing too much by project, specification and authority to hand you honest defaults — a rate that is wrong is worse than no rate.

What is true of every firm on InstaJack is true here: the price book is yours. Add your BOQ lines once — your descriptions, your units, your rates — and they are saved for every quote and claim after. Most firms build the core of the book from their last tender in one sitting, then quote the next one in minutes. Start on Core, free forever; add the Claim Pack when progress claims and variations become the week's heavy lifting.

Questions

Asked often, answered straight.

Does InstaJack come with MEP prices already loaded?+

No. MEP has no built-in starter book, because contract rates vary too much by project and specification to be honest defaults. You add your own BOQ lines and rates once, and they are saved for every quote and claim after that.

How do progress claims work in InstaJack?+

With the Claim Pack, each claim is built from your approved quote lines. Set the percentage complete per BOQ line, send the claim, and keep a record of claimed versus approved amounts, including retention still held, in one place.

Can variations be approved before we do the extra work?+

Yes. Price the variation from your book, send it on WhatsApp, and the client or main contractor approves it on the link before work starts. With the Claim Pack, only pre-approved work is ever claimed, so after-the-fact arguments end.

What does InstaJack cost an MEP firm?+

Core is free forever: quotes, your own price book, WhatsApp approvals, invoices with bank details and the bookings diary. The Claim Pack is AED 79 per firm per month. Crew is AED 49 and Pay is AED 59, only if you need them.
